A diverse and talented musician, Jimmy Butler was
born with musical roots and a natural ear.
In childhood he displayed an innate sense
of rhythm and desire for experimentation with instrumental range.
Moving from Philadelphia to Oklahoma City as a teen, he
began his varied musical career as a bass player with "Lance and the
Long-riders," but soon discovered his love of the keyboard and the range of
musical styles it affords.
A full time musician since 1982, Jimmy has enjoyed the
ride. He comments "I have been thankful for the opportunity to work with
other musicians and the team effort it takes to keep a band's performance up
to professional level." He looks back with satisfaction and appreciation of
the continuous learning process that goes along with expanding musical
horizons.
As a member of various Oklahoma City bands, including
Double Take, Rebel Lee and Southbound, David Sugg and Cross Country, Hal
Brooks and Borderline, Sailor and others, Jimmy B. has performed a wide
range of styles, from country to rock to blues to r&b in just as diverse a
range of venues; from nightclubs to honky-tonks to country clubs.
His versatility, sensitive ear and
professionalism landed him studio work in OKC, including a stint at
Palladium Music, and has made him a valued studio musician since his move to
Nashville.
The move to "Music City", (urged on by his
uncle-songwriter
Tirk Wilder) turned
out to be a happy decision. "It is great to be in a place where others
understand my passion and commitment to music as a way of life" he said in a
recent interview. Since arriving in Nashville, Jimmy has honed his digital
studio skills and enjoyed working with songwriters producing their demo's,
with the same care and sensitivity that he puts into his own work. His live
gigs out of the Nashville area have included playing with the B.B.
King All Stars, the Wooten Brother's Friends, Joey Richey, Larry LaDonn and a tour date with David Lee
Murphy. He is currently winding up summer touring dates with
Bryan White.
Although Jimmy is currently working on some of his own
music projects (most recently a smooth jazz project inspired by the natural
world and an upbeat "honky-tonk updated") he still makes time for his
passion of performing, enjoys
session work and is available for songwriter
demo production services.
